What a timber deck restoration includes

Restoration brings an old timber deck back to bare, sound wood and seals it again. It is the right fix when your deck has gone grey, the stain is peeling, or the colour is patchy where furniture or planters stood.

  1. Inspect and fix. We check every board and the joists below, re-screw loose boards and flag any that need replacing.
  2. Deep clean. Mould, algae and old oil residue are lifted so the sander does not push dirt into the grain.
  3. Sand. A drum or belt sander takes off the weathered layer, then edges and corners are sanded by hand. Dust is vacuumed as we go.
  4. Oil or stain. Two coats of penetrating UV deck oil or stain in the tone you choose: natural, teak, walnut or dark ebony.
  5. Cure. Light foot traffic after 24 hours, furniture back after 48.

Oil or varnish?

For outdoor decks in Singapore we recommend penetrating oil over film varnish. Varnish looks glossy for a few months, then cracks and peels in the sun, and peeling varnish has to be sanded off completely. Oil wears down evenly and can simply be topped up.

When sanding is not enough

If a board flexes underfoot, has deep splits or crumbles at the ends, sanding will not save it. We replace those boards first. See deck board replacement.

How it works

Our process

  1. Send photos

WhatsApp 3–5 photos of the deck, one close-up of the worst area and the rough size.

  2. Get a fixed quote

We reply with a quote, usually the same day, and visit first if the job needs it.

  3. Repair day

Most balcony jobs take 1–2 days. We mask walls, glass and railings and vacuum the dust as we sand.

  4. Cure & handover

Oil needs 24–48 hours before heavy use. You get care notes for your timber or composite.

Timber deck restoration: FAQ

How often should a timber deck be re-oiled in Singapore?

Every 6–12 months for decks in full sun, and every 12–18 months for covered balconies. Re-oiling on time avoids a full sand.

Can you restore a deck that has turned completely grey?

Yes. Grey is only the top layer of UV-damaged fibre. Once sanded, the original colour of chengal, balau or teak comes back.

Will sanding make a mess in my home?

We tape plastic over doors, glass and walls, use sanders with dust bags and vacuum as we work. Most clients stay home during the job.

Can you change the colour of my deck?

Yes. After sanding we can apply a lighter natural oil or a darker walnut or ebony stain. We do a small test patch first.

Not sure if your deck needs a repair or a full replacement?

Send us photos on WhatsApp. We will tell you honestly whether a sand-and-oil, a few new boards, or a full re-lay makes sense, and send you a quote.
