Replace the bad boards. Keep the rest of your deck.
Rotten, split, cracked or loose decking planks swapped out one by one, with joist and subframe repairs where needed.
Repairing wooden deck boards the right way
One or two failed boards do not mean a failed deck. We cut out the damaged planks, check the joists underneath, and fit new boards of the same species and profile.
What we check before replacing a board
- Is the joist below solid? A soft joist will rot the new board too.
- Is water pooling under the deck? Blocked drainage is the usual cause of rot on balconies.
- Are the screws or clips corroded? Rusted fixings stain timber and let boards lift.
Matching new boards to old
New timber is always lighter than a weathered deck. For the closest match we replace the boards and then sand and oil the whole area, so old and new take the same tone. For composite decks we source the closest colour and profile; discontinued colours can be swapped in from a less visible area.
Subframe and joist repair
Older balcony decks often sit on timber battens that rot long before the top boards. We replace rotten battens with aluminium runners, which do not rot and keep the deck level.

Deck board replacement: FAQ
Can you match my old deck boards?
For timber, yes: we use the same species and sand and oil the area so the colour blends. For composite, we find the closest colour and profile available.
Can you replace just one or two boards?
Yes. We replace single boards as well as whole sections. Send a photo of the damaged boards and the board profile for a quote.
My deck feels soft in one spot. What is it?
Usually a rotten joist or batten underneath. We lift the boards, replace the frame section and refit the boards.
Can you replace timber boards with composite?
Yes, either for a section or the whole deck, as long as the subframe spacing suits composite boards.
